The second million, faster

Blu EV's battery swapping network has passed 2 million successful battery swaps, less than four months after crossing its first million in mid-July 2026. The first million took around a year and a half, counted from the commercial launch of Blu EV's Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) solution in early 2025.

The milestone in numbers

• Network: 320 Battery Swapping Units (BSUs) across 16 cities in Egypt and Morocco, the largest battery swapping network in the Middle East and North Africa

• Daily swaps: 9,228

• Electric riding: more than 55 million kilometers powered

• Emissions: an estimated 5,548 tonnes of CO₂ avoided compared with fuel-powered motorcycles

• Rider and fleet savings: running costs cut by more than 30%, and total cost of ownership by up to 50%, compared with fuel-powered two-wheelers

Built to run at scale

At more than 9,000 swaps a day, each swap still takes 60 seconds or less. Behind every one, software developed in-house by Blu EV processes the scan, the transaction and the swap itself, at scale and without interruption.

An ecosystem that grows with every partner

Battery swapping is the entry point to the wider Blu EV Ecosystem. It connects vehicle manufacturers and brands, battery and hardware suppliers, distributors, BSU hosts, payment networks, financing and insurance providers, last-mile delivery operators, ride-hailing platforms and regulators.

Each new participant makes the platform more valuable to the rest. That network effect shows in the pace of the second million.

Beyond Egypt

In Morocco, Blu EV is running a pilot in Rabat and Casablanca, its first operational step beyond Egypt's borders. Blu EV is also the only company from Africa and the Middle East with a seat on the Swappable Batteries Motorcycle Consortium (SBMC), the international consortium working to standardize swappable batteries for light electric vehicles.

What comes next

With capacity now in place across its highest-demand areas, Blu EV is extending its network into areas not yet covered, with the aim of covering all of Egypt in 2027. The goal stays the same: mobility that is green, affordable, efficient and convenient.
