Against the grain
Last-mile delivery runs on outsourcing. Operators contract riders who bring their own motorcycles, and the business stays asset-light. VOO ran that way too, until it dropped the outsourced model and invested in a fleet of its own, built on Blu EV-powered e-bikes. Owning the fleet is a rare move in last-mile delivery. Making it fully electric is rarer still.
Great is in the details
Karim Abouzeid, VOO’s co-founder and COO, describes VOO as Egypt’s first convenience delivery app, launched in 2019. Its business rests on convenience and speed, and he puts the line between good and great down to the details. The fleet turned out to be one of them.
The cost of outsourcing
With riders on their own motorcycles, the fleet was hard to control. Fuel prices kept rising, maintenance costs were high, and neither was in VOO’s hands.

All in on electric
VOO came to Blu EV with a plan to go 100% electric. The ambition took the Blu EV team by surprise, and both sides got to work on it.
Battery swapping made the plan practical. Karim didn’t want motorcycles that had to be charged. With swapping, a rider exchanges a depleted battery for a charged one and the bike is ready to move. In his words, it’s “even faster than if you’d go into a petrol station to fill up the tank.”
The gains went beyond time. Quieter rides spared residents of compounds and closed communities the noise of delivery motorcycles. Lower fuel bills, an early win, paid off further as fuel prices in Egypt rose. VOO moved its fleet from 100% fuel to 100% electric in six months.
Fully electric, and growing
Today, VOO’s fleet is fully electric, covering Greater Cairo through to El Gouna and the North Coast. The next goal is to double the fleet and reach more areas.
For a business built on convenience and speed, Blu EV now provides the operational backbone VOO wanted for that growth. As Karim puts it: “The more we grow, the more they grow.”
